Many adults reach for Emergen-C at the first sign of a cold. While that's fine for adults, when you see cold symptoms coming on for a child, you shouldn't give your child under 15 an adult Emergen-C or a similar supplement. Instead, there is a kid Emergen-C that is specially formulated for kids and is safe to give to your child.
Emergen-C is a high dose of Vitamins C, B-6 and B-12 that's formulated for adults. Each dosage contains 1,000 mg of Vitamin C (about 16 times the USDA recommended daily value). While this is well within safe dosage for an adult, the upper intake level for children is considerably less: Children aged 1- to 3-years old should only consume 400 mg Vitamin C and those 4- to 8-years-old should consume no more than 650 mg.
Adult doses of Vitamin C won't have severe adverse affects, but they can cause upset stomach in children. In both children and adults, absorption of Vitamin C is best at low dosages: You (and your child) can absorb up to 90 percent of a moderate dosage, while up to 50 percent of a dose higher than 1,000 mg is not absorbed.
Although wasteful, unabsorbed Vitamin C is typically not dangerous. Although excessive levels of the vitamin, which is acidic, can cause upset stomach, unused Vitamin C is passed in urine.
Instead of giving your child Emergen-C or a similar supplement, seek to provide enough Vitamin C though a balanced diet. Citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruit, bell peppers, strawberries and cantaloupe are all rich in Vitamin C. If you're concerned your child isn't receiving enough Vitamin C in her diet, supplement it with a kids' vitamin that contains is.
And the idea of beating back a cold with big doses of Vitamin C? It's mostly a myth. Treating the common cold with Vitamin C reduces the length of a cold about 14 percent in children and 8 percent in adults.

Because vitamin C is water soluble, your body does not store the excess, and this makes the likelihood of overdosing rare. However, if you consume vitamin C supplements in very high doses, this can lead to symptoms of digestive upset, such as gas. Discuss your vitamin intake with your health care provider, and ask about lowering your dosage if you experience gas or other side effects from taking supplements.

Try eating more oranges, strawberries, red peppers, winter squash, watermelon or kiwi. However, be aware that certain food sources of vitamin C are more prone to cause gas, such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and cabbage. If you experience gas from food, try eliminating these sources from your diet.
Additional Considerations
While taking too much vitamin C can have adverse effects, not getting enough can be harmful as well. A vitamin C deficiency can result in a compromised immune system, gingivitis, anemia, nosebleeds, rough skin, splitting hair, swollen joints and other symptoms. If you believe you are not getting enough vitamin C in your diet, talk to your doctor about what foods you can eat or the dosage of supplements you should take. I used the serum every morning under my spf moisturizer (I use cerave's ultra light moisturizer) and on some nights and this does make a difference on the dark spots that my acne leaves behind. Usually when my acne is deep, it takes a while for the dark spots to go away like a whole year but this product decreases it to like only a month or two. It is a must-have in my skincare routine now. This product takes time because it is not going to do much after one day.

I noticed a change in the texture of my skin and it also faded some of the sun spots on my face. I have also read reviews of some other products similar to this that cause irritation. I did not have any issues with this product causing any irritation whatsoever. Overall, I would recommend this product.

I have used this serum every morning for the past several years. After cleansing and toning, I use this serum. It brightens my face and prepares it for applying make up. I definitely recommend it.
Drenched with Vitamin C
Smooth serum is quickly absorbed by the skin. Moisturizer doesn't sit on top of the serum and I use the Derma E Vitamin C lotion and together they provide a drench of vitamin C. My skin looks a lot clearer and brighter.

I struggle with acne-prone skin, and this product noticeably helps clear my pores. It has noticeably reduced blackheads on my nose and seems to help heal the more superficial type of breakouts. I of course also like that vitamin C is supposed to help with wrinkles and sun damage. It can be a bit drying, and sometimes it stings after application (I tell myself that means the product is still good).

My sensitive skin started having a freak out once I stopped using my Derma E Vitamin C Intensive Night Cream. My mom ran out of night cream so I gave her mine. Once I did, my skin started breaking out, getting flaky in some areas and look dull. I restarted the Intensive Night Cream but I added the Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum too. The serum is not sticky, and it lightly moisturizes without a greasy feeling. My skin is soft and smooth again. My foundation applies so evenly on my soft and smooth skin. I even got a compliment about how nice my skin looked. The tone has greatly improved. There''s a little citrus scent to the serum, but it's light and disappears once you smooth it in your skin. Pumps out the perfect amount each time. I've had it for 2 months, and I've only used 1/5th of the bottle. I'll never take this out of my skin care regimen. I apply it at bed before my the Intensive Night Cream.

I purchased this serum because I wanted a gentler alternative to the 20% l-ascorbic acid serum I use for days when my skin is feeling more sensitive. I like what I have read about sodium ascorbyl phosphate, being gentler and more stable than l-ascorbic acid, so I was happy to see it so high on the ingredient list. There are many other lovely ingredients included in this serum too. I was hesitant when I saw the "natural fragrance oils" listed but figured since they are last on the ingredient list, they would have little sensitizing risk. I know some people say they tolerate fragrant essential oils just fine, but I prefer to avoid them because I do believe Paula Begoun when she explains how they can be sensitizing over time, even if you're not seeing the damage right away. As it turns out, I hate the fragrance of the serum and find it to be quite overpowering when I first apply it. It does dissipate quickly, but still, the strength of the smell makes me think that the concentration of these oils is higher than I would have thought. Who knows. As it happens, I like the consistency of the serum, I do not find it has contributed to breakouts in the couple of weeks that I've been using it (I have mild hormonal acne and congestion, but it hasn't changed since I started this serum). It seems to absorb nicely and leaves a very pretty glow to my skin. Usually, I do not like a serum with a "glow" because I tend to have oily spots, and things that claim to leave a glow tend to be overkill on my complexion. This one really does have a nice finish on me. If they removed the fragrant oils, I would probably repurchase. If it stays as is, I will likely finish the bottle but not repurchase.
